my z1000 2003 just started making a ticking noise.?

I mid 5800. on the bike and changed the oil 450 km. ago. I bought the bike from a buddy who has spare exhaust on it (do not know if he has mapped the pipes). The bike was fitted smooth and sounded fine for mid 1200. or that I put on it. Today, I started to hear the ticking. It is from the front half the bike's certainly not a vibrating accessory. I told him warm up to 110 * before each trip and have not redlined. The sound resembles a map play in a bicycle spoke, what is it?
